Why do I love social web ?

Today, I had a lunch with some of my start-up partners. We are working hard together since several month and we had a refreshing talk wondering what we do fancy most on the web. After, few seconds, it was very clear as to me : I really love the Internet for its social side. That is funny, I now work with my facebook and twitter page constantly opened. And I am so happy when I receive notification mails about my blog…

I do love the social functions because they able me to live several lives. I can work and keep in touch with so many friends… An old dream.

But as to social life, it really creates a new social circle. Let’s consider our parents social circles : their relatives, their friends, their relations (collegues, members of a club, whatever)… But that was done for a living. Social web, gave us a new social circle with its own rules. For example through this blog I met zak, she soon became a facebook friends and I eventually would follow on twitter. The web is a real social space, with its own rules.

But what is really interesting is how this web social circle give birth to a new real one. For exemple, bloggers often need to meet themselves “in vivo”. In Paris, “La république des blogs” or “Paris carnet” are very famous in blogger’s world. Several weeks ago I had been invited to celebrate the 5000st facebookfriend of Loic Le meur. But I am stunned about the combination of mobile web and social sites. With an i-phone we may leave a “twit” about where we are and what we do, hoping that somebody that would follow them could say, “hey cool, I am one block away, let’s meet each other”.

So, please dear readers, leave me a comment.

  • You’re on twitter or you’ve friended me on twitter? Because I hate to be the bearer of bad news — I’m not on twitter :(

how do you choose to layer your virtual and realtime friends — are you willing to accept each into all areas of social networking or do you reserve certain formats for certain types of contacts?

  • I am on twitter… Don’t worry, I just use our discussion as an example for the post.
As to the layer, I would not map my friends whether I met them on the web or not… My point was on the fact that, now, the starts to able the kind of social complexity that traditional world offers. So I think, all my friends are real time. That means I don’t have any formats.
