Competition is not welcome on the web!
Today I read a quite interesting article of Chris Miller. He is not easy with the bookmarking activities because it does not do what it is promising : an easy found of the right piece of information on the web.
Somehow we all know bookmarking, is not the ideal solution, we know the drawbacks and use them for private searching or complementary tool for google.
I think, bookmarking, is not fully satisfying because the way they are ranked does not fit with the deep logic of the web. Rankings, lists, of any kind does not reflect the idea of networks. Networks means cloud, community, reaching through others…It is obvious that a good piece of information is highly subjective and depends on what you are searching. How can it be ranked?
In fact the idea of ranking, is an old centralized logics settle on a new modern logical system based on collaboration. Ranking, lists, induces the idea of competition rather than collaboration.
Competition is not welcome on the web!

This is really well written, and I like the idea. I’ve never put a lot of thought into it, but you’re right.
