Robots do not communicate !
Today mashable has published a post titled “What google should learn from start-ups”. I scrathed my eyes thinking it have been a mistake but no according to mashable, Google (what every start-up does not even dream to become) could learn something about little start ups like mine? My ego is flatted, dear Steven. But what could google learn from me?
According to you, Google should learn from start ups how to communicate. Why? Because Gmail has disabled the account of one of its customers and when he complained Google sent this absurd message :
“Thank you for your report. We’ve completed our investigation. Because our investigation was inconclusive, we are unable to return your account at this time. At Google we take the privacy and security of our users very seriously. For this reason, we’re unable to reveal any further information about this account”
Could we say that start-up always do a better job ? I am not sure, very often start-up just does not send any message because they are overwhelm with things to do. Anyway, I think that is not the point. Google is not guilty, like Steven Hodson induces it, of being so big it does not care anymore about its customers. That is just an aftermath of Google’s ideology.
Google is guilty of his faith in robots. The success of google is due to machines that does a great job of finding sites for men. They do beleive that someday, algorythms, machines and robots will increase the dailylife of people. So when a robot disable an account, a robot sends Nick a pre-written absurd message. In Google world, it is normal.
It seems strange today because of social web. New web 2.0 start-up are really great at dealing and thus communicating with huge community. Those second wave of start-up have deeply understood networks logic. They are build for this environment, so they appear to be good. That is just one of the fist sign of the inadaption of google to the Internet.
I wish Darwin coud see a so fast evolution.

Great post! Google vision and mission statement would deserve to be re-read under this light… Guess that each word would deserve a comment
