Leaders duty is to grow idea !

Last week I have spend one day and a half attending to the web conf “Le web 08″ in Paris. I did not write about the event because I have not seen anything that would deserve a post. However those big events always have their “grands moments”. Here, it came after the conference : the fight between Loic Le Meur and Michaël Arrington. Every media blogger reported about it Robert Scoble, Sarah Lacy… and many others less known. And, yeah, they are fighting about cultural differences between Europe and Silicon Valley…

Do you remember, in Pulp Fiction (1994)  “you know the funny things with Europe are the litte differences. You know how they call a quater pounder with cheese, a royal cheese… And in Paris, you can buy beer in McDonald’s. And how do they call a big mac, a big mac is a big mac.” Like in tarantino’s this guys have nothing to say, they are just making noise.

It would not hurt me if I had not the idea I have of the web. I think the web is a great industry that is rising. We can measure the chance we have to work in an emerging sector, just see how difficult it is for the automotive industry. Such a conference with so many leaders of the new world must be a great event with responsible debate. I regret their was no great idea with that conference, I hope next year their will be more. But it is the responsibility of Web leaders to show the way, to invent or to promote new ideas. It is a pity to see them in such a pitiful debate.

Please, Michael, Loic, I understand your communication needs but would you please next time help making idea grows, and not make noise. Don’t you think that would rather be your role?

  • What’s worse is that both the people involved in that “debate” consider themselves to be thought-leaders on the web. Is this really how a thought-leader would/should act?

    I think not.

  • Hi Dan, I think anyway it is hard for a network to have leaders. But they could, at least, represent a taste of the internet industry… That is, in my opinion, what they failed for. (But I do not think it is easy)
