Innovation is boldness!

Several years ago, I decided to visit one of my great friends that used to live in Chicago as he was doing a phd in economics at the famous Chicago university. It was really fun because I had never been there before and did not know anything about the windy city. So, I decided to dedicate my inflight hours (coming from Paris) to my Lonely-planet-Chicago-guide. Of course, i am always interested in the place I first visit, but as to Chicago a small black&white picture held my attention. It was an interior vew of the “Robie House”. The style was “art deco” which is quite common in Chicago just like in New York, but there it was not good, it was great!
I discovered that this house has been build in 1909 and designed by Franck Lloyd Wright, the famous architect of the Guggenheim Museum of New York, I had visited several years before. The Robie house was all about square angles and lines, whereas the Guggenheim was a sphere. I am still amazed by the boldness of this man. But boldness is key to innovate, isn’t it?

Was this house really built a century ago? It stood the test of time. It definitely looks modern! And seems a nice place to live in, too…

Well, actually you cannot live in this house since it is a museum now, but it is really astonishing.

It is a lovely house. I enjoyed it from the outside while a student at the University of Chicago. I also ate there because I was a member of a cooperative meal arrangement which occupied the house dining room. A friend of mine lived in the house as its caretaker. Wright didn’t like internal doors. There was no door to the bedroom occupied by my friend and his wife. When I visited my friend I went upstairs and entered the bedroom, and, what do you think???
